Why is the Egyptian traditional dress for women black? Does this color have any meaning, like red in China (fortune/luck) or white in Korea (royalty/integrity)?

  1. The black dress for the Egyptian women means sometimes modesty, sometimes sadness and this time it also means fashion.

  4. I think that the dress for women should hide its female temptation by any kind of dress not necessary black. The meaning behind this type of dress is to avoid others from looking and steering to her thus, it is a kind of protection for the women from sick people who always enjoy looking at the females.

  6. I do not know what all Muslims do link it to Islam, each and every one is free to wear the color that you love, nothing to do with the color of Islam, each one wearing what he likes, Islam is a religion of freedom, a religion of cleanliness, the religion of beauty, the religion of equality, but he refuses to be women delivered to the game in the hands of making fashion, he refuses to nudity, pornography, obscene

  7. I agree with Ahmad Salah about black color is not necessary at all. the basic idea of color of dress or the frame or shape of dress is to be non attractive. to keep women save and avoiding any noisy people and by the way it same for men, as it not allowed to men to lured women by appearance or words.

  9. Clothing in Islam is a means and not an end, there is no relationship between the colors and meanings, in Islam, but there is a relationship between color and character of every human being, and there is a relationship between color and appropriate social,
, does not link to it in Islam

  10. The black dress for the Egyptian women don't has any relation with Islam (Islam don't determine any color for women to wear it), but there are another reasons to that , one of them, sadness; when any one from their close relatives died they are wearing the black, the second reason, to don't attract others to look at them and this reason who is common(Islam order women don't wear any thing attract others to keep and protect her from sexual harassment or any thing bad).the third reason , that is traditional in some countrysides like upper Egypt .
